Psalm 8 by Christian Ridil presents a contemporary analysis of the archaic form of a psalm motet. The four-choir, sixteen-part work displays the shape of polychoric motet of the "Golden Age" through further refinements and differentiations in the polyphonic structure in a brand new, modern garb.
The arrangement of several choirs in the concert hall and the resulting special sound effects were known and popular almost 400 years ago. Ridil takes this one bold step further by arranging the four choirs not only in concert hall but in addition each of the choirs sing the psalm text in another language, Latin, German, English and French. The effect is haunting and very touching. Abduct your audience into another world, in which the view is simultaneously turned backwards and forwards.
